Fatherless choice #2
Which character is the most memorable to you and why? Which scene stands out in your mind? Explain.
One of the most memorable characters in the book for me would have to be Father Sweeney. Besides the fact that hes a priest, he is a person who is given alot of persuasion. It seems many people go to him for adivce, especially about personal matters and familys. Familys are the core of any persons beliefs and shape their personality; so for father to have a role in this is impressive. An example of his leadership ability was when he was in Rome and was dealing with the ignorant locals. Not only does it take a leader to show passion for what he believes in, but also to use negative scenarios to strengthen what he believes in. The fact of him being a priest also adds to my ability to have respect for him. As life gets more glamorous, faster, and easier; its hard to dedicate oneself to a restrained and delicate lifestyle. Now one can argue that he has shown moments of weakness and I would agree with them, but also pose the statement " he who is without sin may cast the first stone". In addition to his other attributes, dealing with corrupt individuals and working for a church that has had some turbulance is no easy feat. All in all Father Sweeney is a courageous and inspirational individual that has captured my atention the most throughout this book. " Self-control is the chief element in self-respect, and self-respect is the chief element in courage"
The character that is the most memorable in Fatherless to me has to be Fr. Sweeney. He is a priest that goes around to people asking if they need help and if they do he does everything he can. He is a priest that cares about his community. Many people go to him for advice and support, such as Maggie Kealey when Moia is troubled. This shows that many people respect him and consider him a major part of the community. The scene that stands out the most is when Fr. Sweeney talks to Michael Burns about the new postition at HSN. He gives him the advice of taking the postiton even though it disturbs and upsets him. Sweeney talks to many people thoughout the story and help them with their problems. This shows that noone can go without help when it comes to Sweeney.
The character that I remember the most is Michael Burns. He is a very religious man who seeks advice from Fr. Sweeney. After the talk with Fr. Sweeney, Michael decides to stick to his beliefs. He is a catholic business man in an unreligious world. The only thing some of the business men Michael works with like is money. They will do anything for business. When Mr. Gail talked to us earlier in the year he described a situation he was in like Michael Burns. Michael was trying to change people’s opinions who did not want them changed. During the story he starts to lose his faith. It is restored around the point in the story when his sons are born.
For me the most memorable character was Moia Kealey. She is the most memorable to me because I believe she has dealt with most hardships throughout the book. Moia has to deal with her hard memories of being molested by a priest. This make her a memorable character because at the time that we were reading about this the story that involved the priests in Philadelphia was in the news. That must be such a horrible thing to deal with and unfortunately Moia could not deal with that any longer. She ended up ending breaking down mentally and taking her own life. Moia is the most memorable to me because I knew someone who took their own life and the story about her really hit home with me.
The character from Fatherless that is most memorable to me is Moia. Moia is a very complex character who has a very mysterious past. She tries to hide her pain inside but everyone knows that she is hiding some serious sadness and pain inside. As the story progresses, her family and friends all try to help her get over her pain. The more people try to help her the more, it seems, she tries to resist any help. The person that seems to be the most concerned with Moia's mental health is Fr. Sweeney. He continually prays for her and her family throughout the book. Her mother also is very concerned for her, so much that she calls an exorcist to come and help her daughter. At the end of the book, Moia's pain is too much for her so she takes her own life. Her complexity as a character and her life story and struggle make her the most memorable character to me.
The character that I remember the most from Fatherless is Moia. Moia is a very depressed girl that needs help. She locks her pain inside of her. She doesn't tell anybody so that makes it hard for anyone to help her. It also seems likes she does not want any help as well. Her mother calls an exorcist to come and try to help. A scene that I remember the most is when she took the pills. That showed me that she didn't care about her life. Also, she didn't try to fix how she felt. She just lived depressed the whole time. Her struggles are why she stood out to me.
Moia Kealey was the most memorable character to me. Moia was a very disturbed young lady who was possibly mistreated by a priest. She does not trust Father Sweeney for this reason. Moia did not trust anyone, even her own family. What I remember most about Moia is the scene where Father tries to help her, but Moia spats at him. This showed me she did not want any help. Clearly, she did not want help. Moia just wanted to be by herself and soak in her misery. Eventually, Moia kills herself through carbon monoxide poisoning. Her hard life really makes me count my blessings.
The character that is most memorable to me is probaly Moia. Moia is so memorable because she is so confused during the book. She clearly needed help but wouldn't accept it from anyone. She is clearly had some sort of enounter in her life with a priest that has effected her emotionally. It is hinted that she was raped by a priest but never actually said. When she is speaking to Father sweeny and he catches on that there is something wrong. That is the most memorable scene in the book to me. This is when you truly figure out that she was abused by a priest. She hates father sweeny as soon as she talks to him. You can visualize the scene that moia is just dreading talking to him when father sweeny is just trying to help. Fther doesn't know what is going on but once he figures it out thats when the scene escalades.
I'd say Moia is the most memorable character in the book. Moia catches my mind so much because she is so confeusing. Everytime she is mentioned her actions followed are weird thats why she just stuck in my mind. She has a hard life and must be dealing with alot of things such as being raped, especially by a priest. She can't do anything to get that off of her mind or feel comfortable because the Jesus setting example man has violated her chastity. Which also stuck out was when she killed herself because she must've had so much hurt built up inside her that she would take her life. I don't have one scene that catches my mind but, two. The first was when Moia spits in Father Sweeney's face because that is so disrespectful and I remenber awhile back when someone spit on my shoe and that made me mad so spitting in someone's face is outrageous. The second was when Moia kills herself because one of my friends family have also experienced that and it is hard on their family and close friends.
The character who most sticks out to me is Maggie Kealey because even though everything seems to be going wrong in her life she somehow seems to get through it now matter what. Two examples of this would be when Moia kills herself and also when her husband admits to having an affair and leaves her for the women he has been having an affair with.
