Singing At Church

we are told in church to act reverently towards God when we sing and pray. When we sing "we are one body", we are not allowed to clap because they think it is irreverent. But God doesn't care how we praise him as long as we praise him. I think we should be able to clap during that song. If we are not allowed to, kids will keep falling asleep, not paying attention, and no caring about the mass. We should do this to make the mass more fun and entertaining....What do you think

I completely agree. I can't count the number of times I've seen kids in church sleeping and messing around just to keep themselves occupied. They get so bored during Mass that they can't keep still. If Mass was say, more energetic in its praise, then they might be more inclined to participate.

I like the way southern Babtist churches are able to incorporate song into their masses. This doesn't just teach the greatness of the Lord but it also is able to help us pay attention in a fun and learning atmosphere. I agree that we should be able to clap and sing more in Church to make it more fun and allow us to participate more in the mass

This is completely true. My mom is a Catholic and my dad is a Baptist, so I see both views. Whenever I go to a Catholic mass it's boring and I tend to be tired. We sing but the songs are boring and not too many people join in. Also, some are wierd. when I go to my dad's Baptist church we sing, we dance, we clap and we have fun. While doing this we introduce ourselves to eachother and I actually have a good time. In the means of all this I prais God

This is a true comment that I believe would attract the attention of more students. However, sometimes we might get out of hand with the clapping and that would be disrespectful towards God. If we could clap relavently, I think that would be great. Clapping is a great way to get people who do not like to sing involve. So I would back this idea up if we were to ask.

That is a good point but I dont think the purpose of mass is to entertain ourselves. It is is possible to make the mass more animated but it is only when we are still when we could let God get through us.Clapping may seem as if we are taking away the main purpose or respect from the eucharist when that song goes on. Though I do not agree with clapping for that particular song, I might for the ending or beginning song.

This is a great point. I don't think that when were at mass we should only focuson ourselves and singing. Mass should be complete mind focus on what the priest is saying. I think that mass is a very respectful time and singing and dancing to crazy could perhaps ruin the respect and tradition of the Mass. I would like to see the mass incorporate kids into the mass more.

I second what Jake D said. I think the way people sing in southern baptists churches sing makes church very fun and interactive. It is said singing to God is like praying, and i think sing together in a catchy but reverent song is a great way to participate in God's eternal glory.Singing is a great way to include kids in mass. I think they should incorporate it more.

I completely agree with everyone elses comments. We are told that we should be ashammed of ourselves if we don't sing. But if we try to sing or incorporate anything fun into a song such as clapping after a line we are scolded by others and told we are showing disrespect towards God. I believe for something to be sincere you need to express emotion and if you are just reading the words without much thought you are not showing much emotion. It just doesn't make much sense any more considering they are scolding the people trying to participate and letting the others sleep without any consequences.
