Year 'Round Schooling

California is debating on whether it is worthwhile to open year long schooling. The reason why this is so paramount, is becase if it is passed it will be easier for other states to adopt the same method. This means that our own state could be open for year long schooling. Breaks would exist in the dispersment of 2 weeks, but this takes away from the summer vacation we all crave. China has adopted this, and their education levels in children allegedly are superior to ours. This however doesnt take into account good old American enginuty, and our ability to work together for the common good. What do you think.

I really hope that they don't decide to have school year long. In my opinion I think students and teachers really need summer vacation. If we didn't have summer vacation I think kids would do worse in school because they would never get a good long break. If we had 2 week breaks that wouldn't be the same at all. America should just leave school the way it is now.

I agree, I do not think that this would help students. I can see the idea, and it might help a little bit, because you do not forgett everything over a long break, but I think students would feel overworked, and give up themselves. Also, I can not imagine school during summer as very productive. It might show you, how your life is if you are out of school, but students would cut school more often to give themselves a break.
I guess you have 10 weeks summer break (right?), we have 6 and thats still enough. I prefer the German system, because over there, they had three 1-2 week long breaks in the second semester + normal holidays. We did not had one break. This might be a solution, you have more short breaks and still one long one.

I think that this would be a terrible idea. I believe the reason that they have for it is our poor performance in testing compared to other countries such as Japan and China. However, I believe there are better solutions to this problem than year round school. For schools such as ours, without air conditioning it would be very difficult for students and teachers to work in that environment. Also, the breaks would not be as good. If we had off for two weeks every now and then it would be in all different seasons. It it much better to have your break just in summer, because it is better weather and more to do.

I believe this is one of the worst ideas I have ever heard, and I do not believe year long school is going to help us. First, the two week breaks would not be enough if we are adding three months to the school year, and skipping school or poor grades would definitely be a side effect. And during these two week breaks, our parents still have jobs, so it isn't like we can all use the two weeks vacation to a huge advantage. We would also probably have assignments over these small breaks, and most students I know struggle with summer reading, when they have a whole summer to read those books, so having assignments like that in a two week period would make it seem like there is no break at all. I also think that extracurricular activities would take a hit, because no one in their two weeks off would want to show up to school for an extracurricular activity, if they are not out of state vacationing. Year round school is not the answer to "catching up" in the global market, hard work and belief in the country should be enough.

I feel this would be an awful idea on the part of California. Honestly, don't the teachers and school officials remember when they were children on the last day of school. That feeling of excitement knowing that you were a few hours away from being able to sleep in and relax everyday. So to take away summer break would very easily be the single most harmful thing they could do to their public image.
